United Nations University (UN Uni)
The United Nations University is a global research and teaching organisation. It contains 14 institutes in 12 different countries, one of them called the Institute for Environment and Human Security, being located in Bonn.
The UNU aims to contribute to the education of international academics and further to establish global leadership on issues of sustainable human survival, development and welfare. Thereby, it contributes to the improvement of welfare and human development of the UN Member States and its Peoples. Especially focussing on problems that affect developing countries, the UNU aims to strengthen social development and capacity building worldwide. The UNU is constantly working on extending its global connections and networks by cooperating with international universities and research institutes in UN countries. Along with the education of young academics, the UNU strives to address current issues faced by the international community.
Center for Development Research (ZEF)
The Center for Development Research is an institute of the University of Bonn. It aims to contribute to research and education and therefore to enhance sustainable human development but fight poverty in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The ZEF contains three research departments, working on political and cultural change, economic and technological change, and ecology and natural resource management. These departments are connected by overall, interdisciplinary topics and themes such as health, mobility or food and water supply. The ZEF runs different research projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America and thereby aims to gain knowledge as well as to achieve human development goals. It cooperates with multiple organisations worldwide and further advises governmental and non-governmental bodies.
